Minutes of the December 12, 2018

Ventura Village General Membership Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:04 PM by Chair Elizabeth Ihde.

Motion:      (Watson/Smith) Approval of December 12, 2018 Proposed Agenda
Passed (13 yes/0 no/0 abstained)

Motion:      (Smith/Dorff) Approval of November 14, 2018 Minutes
Passed (13 yes/0 no/0 abstained)

Motion:      (R. Peterson/P. Peterson) Recommendation 1812-1 to write a
letter to the City Council requesting that they fully fund the police budget as
proposed in the Mayor’s budget. 
Passed (12 yes/2 no/1 abstained).

 

ELECTION OF VACANCIES FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Nominees Thor Adam and Bashir Hassan chose to serve another term.  Al Olson and Ahmed Ali chose not to serve again.  
Motion:           (Smith/Watson) to elect Thor and Bashir
Passed (14 yes/0 no/2 abstained)
 
CCP/SAFE CRIME AND SAFETY UPDATE
Lt. Brian Sande reported most major crimes in the third precinct were down this year to date.  Questions were taken.
 
CITY COUNCIL MEMBER ABDI WARSAME-UPDATE
Ryan SanCartier from the councilman’s office reported that the city budget is being put together.  Individual council members can request “markups”.  He also also discussed Opportunity Centers for job training and police/community navigators.  Questions were taken.
 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

1) Parks-Construction is continuing at Peavey including the picnic shelter

2) Executive Committee-we are using the bylaws to clarify membership.

3) Housing & Land– 628 E. Franklin has a proposal – to be reviewed.

4) Community Engagement– The Alley has a new editor.

 

NEW BUSINESS
The new PPL Center at 1021 E. Franklin will have its grand opening next Tuesday, December 18.
