the accessory (carriage) housing initiative

We want Ventura Village homeowners to be able to build apartment units above the garages that line alleyways in our neighborhood.

Construction of these accessory housing units (also known as "granny-flats" or "carriage houses") will accomplish several goals:

• Increase affordable housing opportunities in Ventura Village by providing an increased number of affordable apartment rental units
• Increase homeownership opportunities by providing prospective homeowners with an additional source of income that will lower their effective mortgage payments
• Increase density without requiring high-rise construction
• Make efficient use of existing infrastructure
• Increase safety in our neighborhood by providing additional "eyes on the street".
